Property that had been in our family for decades went to strangers. Savings that were meant for the next generation evaporated in court fees and legal battles that never should have happened.

That loss shaped everything I do. It’s the reason I went to law school. It’s the reason I came back to Bed-Stuy. And it’s the reason Madison Street Legal exists — named for the block between Throop Avenue and Tompkins Avenue where I grew up, where I still walk, and where I see families every day who are one generation away from the same story mine lived through.
