About

Gabriel Hai Turner

Attorney at Law. Founder of Madison Street Legal.

When my great-grandmother passed, our family lost much of her estate. She had worked her entire life — building something real, something meant to last. But without a will, without a trust, without any legal structure at all, what she built didn’t survive her.

I watched family members who loved each other get pulled apart by a system that treats the absence of a plan as an invitation to take. Property that had been in our family for decades went to strangers. Savings meant for the next generation evaporated in court fees and legal battles that never should have happened.

That loss shaped everything I do. It’s the reason I went to law school. It’s the reason I came back to Bed-Stuy. And it’s the reason Madison Street Legal exists — named for the block between Throop Avenue and Tompkins Avenue where I grew up, where I still walk, and where I see families every day who are one generation away from the same story mine lived through.

I started doing this work pro bono. I believed then, and I believe now, that legal protection shouldn’t be a luxury. The sliding scale we offer today grew directly from that conviction.

On the block.

Madison Street between Throop and Tompkins is home. I know the families here, I know the brownstones, I know what’s at stake when someone passes without a plan. This isn’t abstract — it’s personal.

My undergraduate work at Maryville College was a double major in Spanish Literature and International Business. That foundation — literary, cultural, and commercial — shapes how I work with families today. I serve clients in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French, because people should be able to plan for their family’s future in the language they think in.
